The bulk of the Collection covers the period of the 1940s and 50s, and is concerned with Forge's union organizing activity and his political conflicts with TWU officials. Included are correspondence, copies of TWU Executive Board minutes, transcripts of hearings, leaflets, reports on meetings related to the Air Transport Division, and clippings dealing with various TWU leaders, with Communism and the TWU, and with TWU Local 252. There is one file of membership cards and other ephemera and one file of photocopies of articles and letters to the editor written by Forge, 1974-1986. Several photographs were transferred to the Wagner Archives Non-print Collections.

Maurice Forge was born on October 6, 1902, in New York City. He worked as a commercial artist in the 1920s. After losing his job in 1930, he became a bus driver and later volunteered as an organizer for the fledgling Transport Workers Union. Forge eventually became editor of the union's newspaper, the TWU Bulletin, and the leading force in the union's Publicity Department. Much of the Transport Workers Union (TWU) history centers around the fiery figure of Michael Quill, President of the TWU from 1935 to 1966. Quill, born in Kilgarven, Ireland in 1905, started with the IRT subway as a ticket taker.
